Marwa Zafarullah, M.Sc., Ph.D. is a geneticist and neuroscientist with over eight years of experience working at the crossroads of medical, molecular, neuroscience, and translational research. She’s used advanced omic platforms and molecular tools to study the human transcriptional landscape, protein pathways, and immune, metabolomic, and proteomic profiles—all to develop biomarkers for early diagnosis and track the progression of neurodevelopmental, neurodegenerative, and neuromuscular disorders. During her Ph.D., she published more than ten first-author papers in just four years, earned multiple fellowships—including the AIP-USAID, a $100,000 MS Scholarship, and the $50,000 Emmy Werner and Stanley Jacobsen Fellowship—received over ten travel and professional development awards, served on executive boards of eight organizations, and was named an AGGIE HERO by UC Davis Chancellor Gary May for her community service. She’s collaborated with academic labs and biopharma companies around the world, contributing to every stage of scientific projects from initial research to final data analysis, and even stepped into business development during an industry internship, helping drive new strategic sales through close partnerships with scientific leaders. Marwa is passionate about biomarker and product development, clinical genetic testing, genome editing, and drug discovery, and is excited to bring her expertise to advancing personalized medicine from bench to bedside. When she’s not doing science, you’ll probably find her experimenting in the kitchen, enjoying good music, watching Netflix, or spending time with her family.
